Is Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s New Book a Total Flop?
Kylie and Kendall Jenner are successful by virtually any measure, especially for two celebs so young. However, it’s beginning to look like their venture into the publishing world isn’t exactly headed toward a Pulitzer or a spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list.
The girls launched their young adult novel, Rebels: City of Indra: The Story of Lex and Livia, earlier this month, but so far sales have been underwhelming for authors who already have a decent amount of name recognition. In fact, the book described as a “thrilling dystopian story about two super-powered girls” with alliterative names is currently ranked No. 2,950 on Amazon’s list of best sellers.
The lackluster performance definitely could have something to do with timing. The current top-selling YA book is 2012’s The Fault in Our Stars, which is enjoying a huge resurgence thanks to the movie starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. However, reception of the Jenner sisters’ literary debut hasn’t been stellar, either.
The book currently has an aggregate rating of 1.7 stars out of 5 on Amazon, with most customers leaving some pretty scathing reviews, calling it “ garbage from start to finish” and a “waste of time.” Yowch. One amusing but slightly mean reviewer wrote, “Just finished the book and went to get some egg rolls. The fortune cookie they gave me said, ‘The book you just read was terrible’ and now my egg rolls taste like regret.”
Well, we’re not going to hold our breaths waiting for a movie option or sequel, but hey — not too many can say they’re published authors at 16 or even 18 years old, right? Still, we’re thinking maybe Kylie and Kendall should stick to fashion and reality TV for the time being.
Are you surprised the Jenner sisters' book isn't selling?
