Vampire Diaries’ Kendrick Sampson on Klaroline vs. Jaroline and Jesse’s Surprising Future

Kendrick Sampson (Jesse) didn’t get a lot of screen time last night as Dr. Wes Maxfield’s newly-turned vampire experiment on last night’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, but we’re still super intrigued to find out more about this kindly character’s uncertain future. Will he ever escape Dr. Maxfield’s lab? And is there a romantic future for him and recently-single Caroline? Maybe.

Kendrick told Hollywood Life that “there’s a surprise coming” for his character in last night’s Season 5, Episode 5: “Monster’s Ball.” If by “surprise,” he meant getting strapped down on a medical slab while Dr. Maxfield measures the pointiness of his teeth, then he was right. But, we are still unsure what the good doctor wants with his former research assistant. Kendrick said: “It might not be exactly what people are thinking.” What we’re thinking: Dr. Maxfield is perhaps trying reverse vampirism, or at least test the limitations and weaknesses of the vampire species. But that’s just some friendly conjecture. Whatever it is, Dr. Maxfield seems to think Jesse is the perfect candidate for the study. Lucky duck!

As for Jesse’s romantic future with Caroline, things are looking more possible now that Forwood is over and Jesse and Car have one more thing in common: vampirism! Kendrick seems to think that the fandom has warmed up to the idea of Jaroline. When he was first introduced as a possible love interest for Caroline, he said, “I got a lot of tweets. They weren’t really mean or anything, but people definitely didn’t want Jesse messing up — what is it, ‘Klaroline?’” Sounds about right. And now that he’s started his run on the show, and even shared a kiss with Caroline?!

“Once I actually appeared on the show, I started getting some really encouraging tweets,” Kendrick said. “They were like, ‘I’m a ‘Klaroline’ fan, but I don’t know, I’m really like Jesse and Caroline together.’” Everybody wins! (Well, except poor Forwood.)

Do you have enough room in your hearts to ship both Klaroline and Jaroline? And what do you think Dr. Maxfield is up to with lab vamp Jesse? Sound off in the comments below!
