It’s hard to keep straight who Olivia Pope is dating on Scandal, but pregnant Kerry Washington’s love life is a whole lot simpler. The amazing actress announced her pregnancy back in October, just three months after clueing us in about her secret July wedding. But just who is Nnamdi Asomugha, the man who Kerry tells all the secrets she’s keeping from the media? Here’s a quick break down.

1. He Is Was a Professional Football Player
Nnamdi played football in high school and college, and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 2003 NFL draft. After playing for eight seasons on the Bay Area team, he played briefly for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. In November 2013, San Francisco dropped him from their team and maybe if they hadn’t they would’ve beaten the Seahawks and, a month later, Nnamdi announced he was retiring from football after 11 seasons. But before he did, he signed a one-day contract with the Raiders so that he could retire as a Raider, which is just adorable.

2. He Got a Sweet College Degree
Kerry’s hubs attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in corporate finance.

3. He Wants to Be a Sports Announcer
We’d say he has a pretty good jump on this goal, since he’s already in the game. Back in 2008, he attended NFL Broadcast Boot Camp with 19 other NFL players, for four days of training with some of the greats in sports radio and commentating.

4. He Has Acting Aspirations Too!
Just like his Golden Globe-nominated wife, Nnamdi loves being on TV. In 2009, he guest starred (fittingly) in an episode of Friday Night Lights. He’s also made appearances in Leverage and Kroll Show, and co-wrote, produced, and starred in a dramatic short called Double Negative, about the life of a struggling Muslim-American writer.

5. He’s a Huge Philanthropist
Born to Nigerian Ibo parents, Nnamdi works to improve the lives of Nigerians through his involvement in OWIN, Orphans and Widows in Need. The organization provides food, shelter, medicine, scholarships, and more for women and children who have been victims of poverty and abuse in Nigeria.

He also works to get kids to go to college by taking them on college tours with his foundation, Asomugha College Tour for Scholars (ACTS). He’s been given tons of awards for his community service efforts, participated in the Clinton Global Initiative every year, and seems like pretty much the best guy ever. Which isn’t surprising, given his wife is Kerry Washington, and she is amazing.
