UPDATE: According to TMZ, Ke$ha has told friends her music producer, Dr. Luke, started insulting her weight after her "Get Sleazy" tour ended in 2011, and that helped lead to her eating disorder. He reportedly said she "looks like a f--king refrigerator" during a music video shoot in 2012 and Ke$ha was very upset by the diss. He also supposedly urged her management team to do something about her weight. … You know, sticks and stones may break your bones but cruel words can definitely break your heart.
Ke$ha has checked herself into rehab to undergo treatment for an eating disorder. TMZ broke the news, reporting that the “Tik Tok” singer, 26, checked in just this morning (January 3).
"I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice,” Ke$ha tells the site. “I'll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder ... to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am."
She’s receiving treatment at Timberline Knolls near Chicago, the same place that Demi Lovato went when she checked into rehab in 2010. (At that time, Demi said she was undergoing treatment for “emotional and physical issues.” An eating disorder and cutting were two of the issues named initially. Later, Demi revealed that she was receiving treatment for drugs, as well, and that she suffered from bipolar disorder.)
In “Timber” with Pitbull, Ke$ha’s most recent music video appearance, the singer looks thinner than in her “Tik Tok” days.
The pop star, whose reality docu-series, Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life, is currently airing Wednesdays on MTV, has been extremely active on Twitter in past weeks, but stopped suddenly in the evening of January 1, and hasn’t posted a thing since.
On New Year’s Eve, she tweeted, “cheers to this year being the best year ever. 2014 gon be the year of truth and freedom.” What better way to pursue freedom than choosing to dedicate a month of your life towards overcoming a huge challenge? Nothing but praise for Ke$ha in making this choice.
