Kevin McHale Confirms One Direction Almost Appeared on Glee — What Went Wrong? (UPDATE)
UPDATE (7/17/14): Apparently Kevin got wind of our article and said the story is "not true." Sorry Kev, must have been some wishful thinking on our part, but there's still time for a 1D appearance on Season 6, right? Ge on it, Ryan Murphy!
Glee has managed to snag some pretty impressive guest stars throughout its five year run so far (Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Hudson immediately come to mind) but there was one group of super famous singers that the FOX dramedy was unable to book: One Direction.
We had no idea the boys of 1D — Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry, and Louis — were ever really in talks to appear on Glee (though there were rumors that it might happen) but apparently they came pretty close to gracing the halls of McKinley High not too long ago.
Show star Kevin McHale (Artie) dropped this little gem during an interview with The Sun (via Sugarscape.com) revealing, “We wanted them on the show badly and I thought it might happen at one time. But then they just became too big, too busy.”
Given the band’s worldwide popularity, we’re not shocked that they weren’t able to work in a Glee guest stint, but we’re still bummed it didn’t happen. Still, the Glee cast made the most of their One-Directionless state and managed to cover several of the group’s hit songs, such as “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Live While We’re Young,” and, most recently “Story of My Life.”
