"At some point, you have to make a decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in. Life is messy. That's how we're made. So you can waste your life drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them."
Remember that scene? That snippet is from Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) voiceover that concludes the second-ever episode of the series — Season 1, Episode 2: "The First Cut Is the Deepest."
Meredith, just a Seattle Grace intern at the time, was drawing a line of pprofessionalism between herself and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) — who was then just her dreamy boss and her occasional boytoy — taking the stairs solo instead of the elevator alongside him.
As Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" continued, we also saw Meredith cave and tell George (T.R. Knight) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) that they could move in with her. Cristina (Sandra Oh), who was not yet her "person," guessed that the "toxic" babies behind the glass at the nursery made Mer do it.
Anyway, that immortal speech — written by Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes herself — is sage advice. Who knows why exactly it resonated with the reality starlet, but the press will surely have a field day with speculation, considering how dramatic the Kardashian life can be!
