Kim Kardashian may have a curvy figure, a famous fiance, and a penchant for lightening her dark locks, but is that enough to qualify her for the title of the modern Marilyn Monroe?
Kanye West’s BFF, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci, certainly thinks so!
In a new interview with The Sunday Times (via Celebuzz), Riccardo explains why he thinks Kim is the closest thing we have to the iconic actress in the present day.
"I just wanted a moment with her to understand -- and I fell in love,” says the designer. “She’s the Monroe of our age. People think she's like a doll, but actually she's tough and clever."
While Kim and the late actress may have become beauty icons during their respective years in the spotlight, Riccardo says that Kim’s magnetism is based on so much more than just her looks.
"It's not so much the beauty of people, but the talent, the roots and the intelligence that concern me,” he explains. “I love people who are not scared to fight for their own rights and have their own point of view. The world is big: the music world is big, the art world is big and the fashion world is big, but I think you can recognize a tribe in the similarity of people."
While Kim may have reached Marilyn’s levels of looks-based success, without a successful movie, song, or an Arthur Miller under her belt, we’re not so sure Riccardo’s fawning is completely on the mark.
Do you think Riccardo’s comparison between Kim and Marilyn Monroe is an apt one?
