It’s hard to imagine an engagement ring more fitting for Kim Kardashian than the one Kanye West gave her just a week ago during his now famous October 21 proposal at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Kanye, however, says he wasn’t set on the jewel until just hours before he got down on one knee.
“I actually changed it the night before,” he said during a recent radio interview on Power 106. “That ring was less than four hours old by the time I gave it to her.”
When asked if Kim knew about the proposal, Kanye laughed. “I think Kim just knows everything,” he says, adding that he figures “she knew I eventually [was] going to ask her to marry me.” The only detail holding him up? “I just had to get that ring right.”
To make sure he did, Kanye enlisted the aid of four different jewelry designers and had a grand total of three rings made.
“Only one actually hit the finger,” he explains, that, of course, being the 15-carat stunner crafted by Lorraine Schwartz, a favorite designer of Kim’s. (Lorraine, by the by, also designed Kris Humphries’s ring for Kim.)
We’d already heard Kanye had specific instructions for the ring he’d give his beloved. He wanted only the rarest, most expensive diamond available and also one with a clean, ethical background. Judging from Kim’s enthusiastic acceptance of his proposal, we’d say he made the right choice.
