Want to go to church with the Kardashians? Prepare to pony up.
The monthly cost of membership at the California Community Church (formerly the Life Change Church), co-founded by Kris Jenner, is $1,000 a month, or 10 percent of your gross monthly income. According to The Guardian, Kim is paying the latter to the congregation, though we’re not sure if that’s before or after momager Kris gets her cut. Considering Kim’s worth approximately $40 million, we’re guessing that makes her one of the church’s top benefactors.
Of course, giving so generously to one’s church tithing isn’t exactly a new concept — tithing is basically as old as the Bible. But while it’s usually suggested, it sounds like it’s an all-out requirement for being a member in good standing of Kim’s congregation. On top of her normal gift, a portion of Kim’s eBay auctions almost always benefit the church, which was founded in 2009.
The California Community Church’s official website (which includes a tab specifically dedicated to giving money) explains the biblical purposes for tithing, but doesn’t say a whole lot about how the funds collected are distributed. While they do purport to engage in many outreach efforts, we have to wonder: How much money does a church that congregates in a Sheraton meeting space each Sunday really need?
Are you surprised to hear how much Kim gives her church each month?
