Even more shocking than Klaus somehow impregnating someone (he is technically dead, after all), was that it was with a one-night stand who we barely knew: werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). In fact, fans didn’t take to her initially because she got between Caroline and Tyler last season, and then she betrayed them again by drunkenly sleeping with Klaus. Then, just when we thought she was gone, she showed up pregnant on The Originals.
As seen in both the backdoor pilot and the Season 1 premiere of the spin-off, Klaus didn’t take too kindly to this information, even questioning if someone else was the father. However, thanks to a summon from witch Jane-Anne Deveraux — who was murdered by Marcel because she used magic to find out if Klaus was really the father— we know it’s definitely his. Hayley is now held captive in New Orleans by Jane-Anne’s sister, Sophie, and their witch friends, and they can’t stop, won’t stop threatening her and her baby’s lives if Klaus and Elijah don’t help them defeat Marcel.
As for the actual baby? We probably won’t see much of the unborn hybrid — Phoebe says that she hasn’t wore a baby bump while filming yet, but she did try one on — or a romance between the parents. Klaus resents Hayley, she’s having more chemistry with Elijah than her baby daddy, and they’re going to take their time with the storyline. Phoebe is hopeful that fans will grow to like Hayley because of her backstory: she was orphaned as a child and is learning to become a mom on her own.
At the end of the day, Hayley and her baby aren’t in danger from papa Klaus, but it’s going to be a long, rocky road to the delivery room. We’ll update you as more intel comes in throughout the season, but until then, just picture what their baby will look like — no matter their relationship, he or she will be gorgeous with their genes combined!
