Tyler Perry Defends Decision to Cast Kim Kardashian in The Marriage Counselor
After upsetting black actresses the world over with his decision to cast Kim Kardashian in his new flick The Marriage Counselor, Tyler Perry is firing back with a statement defending his contentious choice in a lengthy blog entry.
First and foremost, Perry says he wanted to assemble a younger cast to bring in younger viewers, something he thinks the celebutante will do. Noted. Agreed.
On his website, Perry also states "it would be a very responsible of her to be a part of this film.” And it’s not just a smart move for Kim Perry says, it will also be good for younger generations to "see her in a film that is about what happens in life when you make the wrong choices." Wait... doesn’t Kim already do enough that in real life?
Anyway, we’re picking up what Perry’s putting down, but it’s hard to take the whole “Kim should be in the movie so she can look like a good role model” thing seriously when it’s obvious that Kimmy’s casting will benefit Perry, too. We don’t doubt Kim’s divorce dramz will bring in heaps of fans (and haters) to see whether she lights up or screws up on the silver screen in the wake of her nasty divorce. And it’s no secret more viewers equals more cash in Perry’s pocket. Ka-ching. It’s actually quite genius (and we’re not just saying that – even some black actresses agree. Ahem, Holly Robinson.)
Still, Perry knows he’s taking a risk and potentially alienating a large portion of the population by hiring the celebutante, and has humbly asked for fans’ “understanding” in the matter, reports the Huffington Post – although that may be the only ‘humble’ thing about it.
