Not long after her divorce announcement, movie mastermind Tyler Perry tapped Kim Kardashian for a role in his latest flick, The Marriage Counselor. Kim’s casting reportedly angered many black actresses for what they deemed a careless move on Perry’s part to give the reality star a role when a number of black actresses are struggling to find work in Hollywood. At the time, actress Holly Robinson Peete said “We can always count on Tyler Perry to give a ‘blacktress’ a job,” adding, “All across the world ‘blacktresses’ are upset.”

Despite the backlash, Tyler has continued to stand behind his decision to cast the bodacious brunette in the film. Tyler first stood up for Kim by writing a lengthy blog post back in November. Now, with unwavering confidence, the actor/director has broached the Kim Kardashian subject again, revealing further details about the controversial casting to Access Hollywood.

“I wrote a role especially for her. It’s a small role that she does a great job with. And I’m excited about it,” Tyler told AH at a press conference for his new movie, Good Deeds.

Now that filming’s over (or, the damage is done), Tyler affirms that Kim actually fared really well on set. “I think it was a great experience for her and I think she was definitely supposed to be there,” he said.

But could Kim-the-Reality-Star ever crossover into Kim-the-Actress? Is the sensitive socialite really cut out for the cutthroat world of scripted entertainment? Maybe, Tyler says. “It depends on the role and the amount of work that she’s willing to put into it,” Tyler told Access. Adding, “She certainly has what it takes to make it happen.”

We definitely don’t doubt that.
