After raising two kids of her own, Kourtney Kardashian is a seasoned pro at parenthood, and she’s spilling the secrets to her happy home life to anyone who will listen — including sister Kim Kardashian!
In the April issue of Redbook the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star opens up about her parenting style and how she’s been working to reinforce the bonds between herself and her kids, Mason and Penelope.
Kourtney says that she and boyfriend Scott Disick share a similar style when it comes to raising their kids, which focuses on patience, not punishment.
“I wouldn’t say I’m strict. I love to communicate with my kids, and I constantly check in and try to talk things through instead,” says the 34-year-old star.
Helping aid in her bonding with her babies is her form of accidental attachment parenting, which she says was more of an instinctive decision than a choice.
“Both Mason and Penelope still sleep in my bed,” says Kourt. “It’s what came naturally to me; I didn’t plan it. When I had Mason, I just felt really attached to him, and wanted to bring him everywhere. He ended up sleeping with me, and I breast-fed for 14 months.”
While Kourtney seems to have a good handle on how to make her own kids both healthy and happy, she stops herself at trying to tell Kim how to parent North. When asked if she still gives her sister tips on raising her little one, Kourtney revealed, “Probably more before she had her baby, like what was essential to get. But I think once you become a mom, your instincts kick in so far as what to do and how to handle everything.”
