Kris and Bruce Jenner Issue Statement Confirming Separation
The writing was on the wall, you guys. After months of speculation that they were on the outs, Kardashian family matriarch Kris Jenner and her husband of more than 20 years, Bruce Jenner, have officially announced their separation.
In a statement issued by the couple and reported by TMZ, Kris and Bruce share the news: "We are living separately and we are much happier this way." According to the TMZ report, this means Bruce has been living full-time in Malibu and hanging out with sons Brodyand Brandon while Kris remains in Calabasas surrounded by her and Bruce's daughters.
On his end, Bruce is reportedly enjoying the change. "I'm finally free to do what I want and live life the way I want," TMZ reports Bruce told people at a recent event.
Honestly, the October 8 announcement isn't that much of a reveal if you've been watching the most recent season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Still, the statement is the first official acknowledgement made by the pair that they are no longer living together (well, if you don't count that whole Bruce-buying-a-new-home part of their show.)
The statement adds: "But we will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends and, as always, our family will remain our number one priority."
A Timeline of Kris and Bruce Jenner Divorce Rumors
Although we're totally upset that the Jenners are going through this tough time, it's hardly a huge surprise. Though Kris and Bruce renewed their vows in Bora Bora back in August 2011, that can often be a kiss of death to some couples. Indeed, barely six months later, in March 2012, reports surfaced that Bruce was “so angry” about Kris putting Kendall and Kylie in the spotlight, that he peaced out of Los Angeles and "wouldn’t even tell her where he was."
Despite fights with Kris about their two biological daughters, he’s always been supportive of his long-time step-daughters, though his attitude toward their boyfriends has been a little inconsistent. While Bruce admitted he was "not that excited" when Kim and Kanye started dating back in April 2012, he and Kris stepped out with Khloe and Lamar Odom a week later on a double date!
In July 2012, a Keeping Up With the Kardashians clip showed that trouble might be brewing for the Jenner parents. When Lance Bass and his beau came over for dinner, Bruce was hesitant to show up. When he did, he sat far away from Kris, and Khloe called out Bruce for being so comfortable apart from his wife. His response? "Let's see you 21 years from now!"
Around Christmas 2012, an insider claimed that rumors about the couple being on the brink of divorce were "total BS" — and Kris even confirmed that such talk was nonsense! But in April 2013, the rumors were back, and Kris took it to her blog to declare that the tabloid-fueled fodder was bunk.
Three months later, in June, Bruce rented a little pad in Malibu so he could get some space — and a place to keep his toys! Though Kris told the kids it was a "mutual" choice, Khloe and Kylie freaked out on the KUWTK cameras. While the move was supposed to be for the summer, InTouch ran with the story, saying the new place was permanent. And when KimYe and Nori moved in to Kris's house at the end of June, Bruce was rumored to disappear even further so he didn't get "told to be quiet" all the time.
By mid-August, rumors abounded that Kris and Bruce were staying together to keep up appearances for their reality show empires. Two weeks later, an insider added to the conversation, saying that the pair had been "separated for months," despite what they were telling media outlets, and that they "don't do anything together unless it's filmed."
And thoughBrody Jenner told Now Magazine that the pair is still together as of October, the couple finally came clean about their relationship on October 8.
