Miss seeing Kristen Stewart on the big screen? You’re in luck: the Twilight actress has signed on to play the lead in a new adaptation of the classic film — and book — 1984 called Equals. In this take on the classic George Orwell novel, we’ll see a more updated version of the story with a way bigger emphasis on romance.
And although filming hasn’t started yet, Kristen’s already admitting that she’s feeling a little intimidated by her new role.
“I can’t believe I agreed to do it,” Kristen said Monday. “I’m terrified of it. Though it’s a movie with a really basic concept, it’s overtly ambitious. It’s a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion. I’m scared.”
And who’s the other half of the “love story” equation? Nicholas Hoult, who you might know from Skins — or as Jennifer Lawrence’s boyfriend and recent Golden Globes kissing buddy. In fact, according to director Drake Doremus, who’s best known for directing the 2011 independent romantic flick, Like Crazy, Jennifer read the script for the movie and loved it, but just didn’t see herself in the role.
“I trust Drake’s process and I know we will do something really natural and real,” Kristen said. “But I told Drake, ‘Don’t expect that I am going to be able to do this. It’s too hard.’ But he wouldn’t take no for an answer. I’ve given directors disclaimers before, but never this much.”
Ye of little faith, Kristen! We think you’re totally prepared to take on this role — it’s not like you haven’t led a multi-million dollar franchise before.
