La Toya Jackson Is Engaged — And She Got a 17.5 Carat Ring!
La Toya Jackson is officially off the market, ya’ll! The 58-year-old singer and TV personality — and Michael Jackson’s older sister — finally said “yes” to her longtime boyfriend and business partner, Jeffré Phillips. Not only that, but she got a 17.5K rock on her ring finger to prove it!
Jeffré popped the big question last August while the couple were vacationing in Hawaii. What started as a romantic dinner on their hotel balcony — complete with a path of white rose petals and gardenias leading to the dinner table — ended in a surprising proposal that left La Toya speechless.
"I had no clue," she admits to People. "I couldn't understand why he was so nervous." When Jeffré got down on one knee, La Toya — who stars in the OWN reality show, Life with La Toya — gushed that her “heart just stopped.”
"I was in total shock," she says. "We're best friends and we've been business partners forever. It was always professional — no one really crossed those boundaries." As for that 17.5-carat ring, which features a round center 10 carat diamond, surrounded by 7.5 carats in round diamonds, it was actually designed by La Toya’s new fiancé himself!
“Jeffré goes over the top with a lot of things,” La Toya reveals. “He found exactly what I would like or want. It’s really beautiful. Given the ring’s size — which is bigger than Kim Kardashian's 15-carat bauble — the newly engaged star added that “It’s very, very big. It’s a heavy one too.” It sure looks like it!
Though the wedding was previously rumored to have already taken place back in 2013, La Toya is keeping coy on the upcoming nuptials. She even revealed that “you have to wait to see the show.” Consider our DVRs set!
