Four years after Brittany Murphy’s sudden and tragic death, her fans will have a new opportunity to say goodbye to the famed actress. The last movie she filmed before her death, Something Wicked, will be released April 4.
According to what the film’s producers tell the New York Daily News, Something Wicked, will open in Eugene, Oregon — the town the movie was filmed in — with a nationwide release after. The film, which is about “a young couple whose life together is threatened by some dark secrets from their past,” wrapped just months before Brittany’s death in December 2009.
So why the long delay? After Brittany’s death, it was difficult for producers to juggle reshoots as well as permissions to return to certain filming locations in Oregon. But now, nearly five years later, the movie is finally ready for theaters.
“You want her performance to be the best it can be, because unfortunately, it’s her last performance,” writer and producer Joe Colleran said. “The first months of reviewing the footage and starting to put things together and then seeing her and hearing her voice, it’s very emotional.”
Brittany’s incredible talent, as she stars alongside One Tree Hill’s Shantel VanSanten and Lords of Dogtown’s John Robinson, shines through in the movie, proving that she really was as great as we remember her to be.
“She just hit it out of the park,” Joe said. “You can see why she was a celebrity and a star.”
