The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) was on Arsenio Hall last night, February 13, and when Arsenio asked her if she had any memorable experiences being recognized by fans in public, the 32-year-old actress had a pretty great story to tell.
“I had a funny one. I was on a roadtrip and I was in the South and I was in a Bojangles [restaurant],” she began. “I was standing at the front cash register and as I moved to the side this group of high school kids came in and they were on a ski trip.”
As you might have guessed, even though it’s clear that Lauren loves and appreciates her fans, seeing such a huge gaggle of teens sent her into a bit of a panic. “I thought, ‘Now if any of them watch the show I’m about to do 25,000 iPhone pictures in this Bojangles.’”
Luckily for Lauren, it seemed like only one girl recognized her off the bat and approached her very quietly asking her to speak so she could confirm that she was standing in front of a TWD star. Lauren, knowing her unique British accent would have been the dead giveaway this polite teen was looking for, briefly considered changing her nationality: “In my head for a moment I thought, ‘You could just be Russian, just for a second!’ because I didn’t look that good that day.”
Lauren reveals that she pretended to be Russian for a second, but quickly gave herself up. We hope she didn’t have to spend the next hour taking pictures with the teens, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the gal that recognized her and managed not to freak out got a quick snap or an autograph in exchange for being so discreet.
Are you surprised that Lauren managed to get recognized at Bojangles? Watch the clip and tell us what you think of her funny story below!
The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
