Lauren Cohan Weighs in on TWD’s Lack of Award Show Love (VIDEO)

The Walking Dead is the hottest show on television right now and has been popular for quite some time, but with the fourth season wrapping up in a matter of weeks it’s interesting to note that the despite the AMC hit’s fan-favorite status, it seldom receives any award show love.

Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) was a guest on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live on March 5, and one caller wanted to know how she and the cast feel about being consistently overlooked by the Emmys, Golden Globes, etc.

“We get Emmy nominations a lot for our zombie makeup,” Lauren began, which elicited a laugh from the audience. “That wasn’t a joke!” she quipped.

Then Lauren’s fellow guest for the evening, Flipping Out’s Jeff Lewis, jokingly wondered if it was because “the acting is so bad.” Lauren playfully laughed off Jeff’s dig, and then got back to answering the question.

“I don’t know, the show’s so culty, we still try to figure out what that’s all about,” she said. “But I don’t know. Your guess is as good as mine.”

To be fair, the show is nominated for prestigious editing and special effects awards year after year, but none of the drama’s actors have ever been nominated for an Emmy or Golden Globe, though they get recognized by fan-powered ceremonies like The People’s Choice Awards .

In Lauren’s answer she mentioned that TWD is “culty,” and it’s worth pointing out that The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (the organization that votes for the Golden Globe winners) and Emmy voters tend to shy away from culty, kitschy shows like TWD.

We think it’s a travesty that TWD has yet to nab or even be nominated for any major awards, but maybe that will change with Season 4. Many of the episodes so far this season have focused on a handful of characters at a time, allowing the actors to really show off what they are capable of. Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon ) and Emily Kinney (Beth Greene) have gotten plenty of praise for last Sunday’s Episode 12 (”Still”), and we have a feeling the best is yet to come.

Do you think it’s time for TWD to get some legit award show recognition? Check out the video and weigh in below!

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
