Glee’s Lauren Potter Opens Up About Intense Bullying She Faced as a Child
Glee star Lauren Potter (Becky) does an amazing job portraying the feisty but at times vulnerable Becky. And just as Becky has had her ups and downs in dealing with her fellow McKinley students, Lauren has also dealt with tough moments in her past.
Lauren tells The Hays Daily News that she was bullied at times while growing up. "I was bullied when I was a kid," Lauren admits. "I was pushed down, made to eat sand, called the 'R' word. That's why I have been fighting to end bullying."
We think it's great that Lauren is brave enough to talk about getting bullied, and we hope that her efforts will indeed prevent others from enduring the same torment.
Meanwhile, Lauren says she always wanted to be an actor. "There were some who said I could never do it," Lauren says. "I was dancing before I could even walk. I always loved music."
What's more, getting to play Becky has allowed Lauren to live out another lifelong dream. "I had always wanted to be a cheerleader," she reveals. "And even though I tried out at my high school, I wasn't allowed to cheer. I knew I wanted this job. I also knew I had to work really hard and do a really good job."
Meanwhile, Lauren enjoys McDonald's during the interview, which her friend teases her for. "Hey," Lauren pipes back. "McDonald's is the most important meal of the day." A woman after our own hearts!
Are you surprised that Lauren has been bullied like this?
