Lea Michele’s “Cannonball” Is First Song From Any Glee Star to Make Billboard Chart — Where Did It Land?
It's official: Lea Michele's (Rachel) first single, "Cannonball," has cracked the Billboard chart in its first week! And she's the first Glee star to do so as a lead solo artist. Go, Lea!
The new tune, which was first released earlier this month, has landed at number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week after selling 51,000 digital copies, according to Headline Planet. It also ranks at 22 on the week's Billboard Digital Songs chart.
What's even more impressive is that the sales number for "Cannonball" tops that of any Glee single from 2013. The show's two biggest-selling songs of the year are "Let Me Love You" and "Make You Feel My Love," which sold 48,000 and 46,000 copies respectively in their opening weeks. The last Glee song to sell more than "Cannonball" is 2012's "Shake It Out."
Plus, Lea is now the first Glee star to have an original single on the chart. This means that previous stars to have released their own songs and albums — including Naya Rivera (Santana), Matthew Morrison (Schue), Darren Criss (Blaine), and Mark Salling (Puck) — were unable to make it onto Billboard's top 100.
Are you surprised by how well "Cannonball' has been selling? Or did you think that it would land even higher on the chart?
