Nothing’s confirmed yet, but both Lea and Glee creator Ryan Murphy are hinting that Rachelmay get the starring role of Fanny in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl. What’s more, when Playbill.comreported the news, they added that producers have “reportedly expressed interest” in Lea Michele to star in a real-life revival of the same musical.
Crazy, right: To have Rachel starring in Funny Girl on Glee and Lea starring in the show in real life? So what’s the deal... is it actually happening?
Not so fast. The story that Playbill links to is from another article published way back in June of 2010. At the time, producer Bob Boyett told the New York Times that he was looking to revive the musical, and that he thought Lea “is wonderful” and would be great for the role.
Of course, it’s now been over two years since then, and we haven’t heard anything more about the musical. It’s possible it’s still in the works, though. If so, Lea might still have a shot. Glee will most likely end after Season 6 (in Spring of 2015), and Broadway musicals can often take a bit of time to get from pre-production to the actual performance phase.
So yes, it’s still technically possible that Lea could star in a Broadway revival of Funny Girl. But given that her job on Glee is still pretty busy, plus the fact that we haven’t heard anything about Bob’s Funny Girl revival lately... we’re willing to bet it will be quite a long shot.
