This has not been the easiest year for Lea Michele (Rachel). The Glee actress lost her longtime love, co-star Cory Monteith (Finn), to an unexpected drug overdose just four-and-a-half months ago. But life goes on, and Lea has been surrounding herself with friends and family, as well as diving into her work full-force.

On Thanksgiving Day 2013, Lea took a moment to share on Twitter what she is grateful for. “Happy Thanksgiving everyone:) So thankful for my family & wonderful friends and of course for all of you,” she wrote.

Lea’s attitude on Twitter has always been one of joy and positivity, so this type of tweet comes as no surprise. Still, it’s hard to overlook how much her life has changed since this time last year.

Over Thanksgiving weekend last year, Lea was spending time with Cory up in his native Canada, and the two were taking part in one of his favorite activities: snowboarding. “Back in LA after the best most beautiful and amazing holiday weekend ever! Feeling so revived and rested! <3” she tweeted after that Thanksgiving 2012 trip.

At the time, Lea and Cory had been together for about a year, but they still hadn’t confirmed their relationship quite yet. That big reveal came about a week later — on December 6, 2013 — when Cory told Ellen DeGeneres that he and Lea were dating.

Of course we are,” he’d said, grinning sheepishly. It was just about the most adorable video we’d seen, and it quickly became one of our favorite Glee star interviews.

Cory may no longer be with us, but his memory will forever live on in our hearts. And that is something we know that we’re truly thankful for.
