It’s now been almost five months since Lea Michele (Rachel) lost her boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith (Finn) to an sudden drug overdose. The Glee star has done a very limited number of print and red carpet interviews, but she has not sat down for a televised TV interview until now.
On Thursday, December 12, Lea appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show for her first sit-down interview since Cory’s passing. In a television promo for the episode, Lea is seen sitting on Ellen’s familiar red chairs. She’s wearing a cheerful red jacket, but her expression is somber. The promo says that Lea “talks openly about the loss of Cory Monteith.” At one point, her voice breaks. Later Ellen wraps her in a giant hug.
In a sad twist of events, it was nearly a year ago that Cory appeared on Ellen and confirmed what Glee fans had suspected for almost a year: that he and Lea were officially dating. We’ll forever remember Cory’s sheepish grin when he announced the news. His feelings for Lea were clear. They really did make an adorable couple.
But the episode won’t be focused only on loss. Lea will be performing “Cannonball” for the first time ever. The Glee star tweeted about her excitement on December 11. “Don’t forget to tune into @TheEllenShow tomorrow @ 4pm/3c! I will be performing #Cannonball live for the 1st time!” she wrote.
Lea released her debut single on December 10, and it quickly rose to the top of the iTunes charts internationally, cracking the top 10 stateside. We can’t wait to get the chance to hear her perform the whole thing live!
