This time last year, Cory Monteith (Finn) sent Glee fans into a frenzy when he confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show what many had assumed for quite a while: That he and co-star Lea Michele (Rachel) were officially dating. It was a moment that most Glee fans won’t forget.
We still remember Cory’s sheepish grin and his hard-to-contain excitement. The quiet and low-key star was clearly smitten with his co-star GF, and the entire interview made that very plain to see.
Twelve months later, Cory is no longer with us, having passed away suddenly of an accidental drug overdose in July. This time, with Lea sitting alongside Ellen in those familiar red chairs, the host brought up Cory’s interview. “When Cory was here, he admitted here on the show that — you all were so elusive about it — admitting you were a couple,” she said. “When he was here, he was so adorable, talking about and admitting that.”
Lea immediately brightened. “I know, it’s one of my favorite memories,” she said. “I remember when he came home that night. He sort of puffed out his chest [she pantomimes], and was like, “I talked about you on Ellen today.” I was so happy. He was such a private person.”
The Glee star readily admits that this past year has been very difficult for her. But when things get hard, she looks back on all the good times. “I literally lived every day of my life feeling like the luckiest girl in the whole world. I just thought he was the greatest man. And that moment, that memory, it means so much to me.”
