It’s only been about two weeks since Lea Michele (Rachel) released her very first single, “Cannonball,” and the Glee star has just surprised fans by releasing another brand new song from her upcoming album!

On Friday, December 27, Just Jared released the full audio of Lea’s second single, “Battlefield.” Best (Day After the Day After) Christmas. Present. Ever.

With song titles like “Battlefield” and “Cannonball,” Lea seems to be telling the world that she’s a fighter. She’s strong and she won’t be beaten. And after the crushing year she’s had with the sudden loss of her boyfriend Cory Monteith (Finn) this July, a theme of strength feels pretty fitting!

Both songs are from Lea’s debut album, Louder, set to release March 2014. But while “Cannonball” was a power-pop ballad, uplifting and full of hope, “Battlefield” is most certainly a breakup song. It’s about realizing that a once-strong romance is coming to an end.

But before you start freaking out, we’re pretty sure this song isn’t meant to imply that Lea and Cory were about to break up before he passed away. By most reports, they were together and happy, about to move in together, and headed towards marriage. Plus, Lea says that Cory heard the songs on her album and loved them. It’s entirely possibly that this song does have a personal meaning for Lea, but that doesn’t mean it’s about Cory.

Lyrics

It’s easy to fall in love, but it’s so hard to

Break somebody’s heart

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Once lust has turned to dust and all that’s left’s held breath

Forgotten who we first met

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it’s coming, does illusion count for something – we hide

The surface tension’s gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

You and I we have to let each other go

We keep holding on but we both know

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Peace will come when one of us puts down the gun

Be strong for both of us, no please don’t run, don’t run

Eye to eye we face our fears unarmed on the battlefield

We seemed like a good idea

No blood

Will spill if we both get out now

Still it’s hard to put the fire out

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

Feelings are shifting like the tide, and I think too much about the future

What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield

We both know it’s coming, does illusion count for something – we hide

The surface tension’s gotta break, one drop is all it takes to flood out this lie

We seemed like a good idea
