When Rachel Berry was encouraged to get plastic surgery after breaking her nose on Glee, it wasn’t just another plotline — it was art imitating life. Lea Michele has gone through the same thing in her own career, but it was never something she was ever interested in.

Back in 2011, Lea told Allure about when she was asked to get a nose job in order to land a manager. And even though she was a teenager at the time (who was also, as Lea’s recently revealed, struggling with severe acne), she knew it wasn’t the right choice to make.

“When I was 15, my mother and I went to meet a manager who said, ‘You have to get a nose job in order for me to work with you,’” Lea told the mag. “My mother would say to me, ‘Barbra Streisand never got a nose job. You’re not getting a nose job.’”

And now, Lea’s shedding light on why she decided against going under the knife to conform to Hollywood’s standards of beauty — and why she’s so glad she made the decision that she did.

“I think my mother would have killed me,” Lea explained to Yahoo! Celebrity. “Thankfully I didn’t. Thankfully I listened to her and grew to love myself, all my different parts, because if I had changed that, I might not be where I am today.”

Good point. Could you imagine anyone else as Rachel? We couldn’t!
