Last week, just before the one-year anniversary of Cory Monteith’s (Finn) devastating death, the actor’s estranged father, Joe, opened up about what the past 12 months have been like without his youngest son, and now he’s weighing in on Lea Michele’s (Rachel) new relationship with “dating coach” Matthew Paetz.
Lea and Cory were, of course, dating at the time of his death last summer, and the Glee actress was devastated when Cory was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room from a toxic mix of heroin and alcohol. Lea kept a low profile for several months, but this past spring she began dating Matthew Paetz. There are rumors Matthew worked as a gigolo just before he started seeing Lea, but we’ll take that chatter with a grain of salt for now.
Many fans are thrilled to see Lea has found happiness again, and Cory’s father is equally pleased she’s moved forward. “She’s a beautiful young woman. She’s just getting to the top of her career and I don’t expect her to go out and do it alone,” Joe told ET Canada (via RadarOnline.com). “She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she was with Cory, from what I understand, but life’s gotta go on.”
Lea may have found happiness with Matthew in recent months, but Cory was not far from her mind as she paid tribute to him on July 13. “We hold you in our hearts today, and every day we remember your smile. We will love you and miss you always,” she tweeted alongside a photo of the late actor.
Joe may be pleased Lea is dating again, but he’s still having trouble coming to terms with his son’s death. “Cory was a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you’d be smiling,” Joe said. “He enjoyed life. That’s why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything.”
