If there is anything we know about Leah Messer and ex-husband Corey Simms’s 4-year-old daughter, Aliannah, it’s that despite her muscular dystrophy, this little girl doesn't let it hold her back. But despite Ali’s progress, it seems like her medical bills are finally catching up to her parents.
“It’s stressful because insurance doesn’t cover the whole cost. One bill alone was $20,000,” Leah reveals to In Touch. The Teen Mom 2 starlet — who is also a mother to 17-month-old daughter Adalynn and Ali’s twin sister, Aleeah— admits that in order to help pay the bills, she briefly worked at a tanning salon just to make ends meet.
“The hardest thing is when Ali looks at me and says, ‘Mommy, my legs hurt,” the 22-year-old tearfully adds. “I know that there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s so tough for me.” But Leah is quick to reassure Ali that even though she knows “she’s different,” she has to keep moving forward.
“I’ve always taught her that no matter what obstacle comes her way, she’s going to overcome it one day a time.” And given Ali’s amazing can-do attitude, it seems like mama's advice is rubbing off on her!
In fact, Ali isn’t letting her condition hold her back, especially when it comes to that little brain of hers! “She uses big words — like ‘optimistic’ and ‘challenging’ — sometimes things I wouldn’t even think to say,” Leah says. “Ali is really smart and she’s well aware of her disease, but she doesn’t let it burden her.” We just love this little girl and her optimism!
