LeAnn Rimes’s New Album Spitfire Has Disappointing Sales Debut

LeAnn Rimes dropped a new album on June 4, but it doesn’t sound like the country crooner will be singing all the way to the bank from the sales of her latest release.

Spitfire debuted at No. 36 on the Billboard 200 chart, with only 10,798 copies sold in its first week. By comparison, the No. 1 album on the charts (Queens of the Stone Age’s ...Like Clockwork) debuted with 91,000 copies sold.

LeAnn’s album fared better on the Billboard’s Top Country Album chart, scoring the No. 9 spot upon its debut. Spitfire is the singer’s 12th studio album, and has actually garnered positive reviews across the board. The Associated Press said the record has some of the best songs of LeAnn Rimes’s career, while Taste of Country rated it four out of five stars and HitFix gave it a B+ grade.

It’s no secret some of the material on Spitfire was inspired by LeAnn’s tumultuous affair with husband Eddie Cibrian, who was married to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville when LeAnn first met him. LeAnn herself was married to dancer Dean Sheremet, but her romance with Eddie was exposed in 2009 by the tabloids. After splitting with their respective spouses, LeAnn and Eddie married soon after.

In recent interviews leading up to the release of Spitfire, LeAnn admitted writing the album was a cathartic experience for her. Despite the controversy surrounding her marriage to Eddie, she’s adamant about her right to tell her side of the story.

"I'm a human being — this is just who I am," LeAnn told Good Morning America. "I have the right to share my happiness and failures and whatever it may be, just like everybody else."
