Lee Thompson Young Suicide: Memorial Service Scheduled for August 23
Friends and family of former Disney star Lee Thompson Young will attend a memorial service for the actor Friday, August 23, E! News reports. The private event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Paramount lot where Rizzoli & Isles tapes. Lee starred as Detective Barry Frost on the TNT show.
Lee died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound; his body was discovered in his apartment on Monday, August 19, after he did not show up on set. He may have died as early as Saturday, August 17, and did not leave a suicide note.
The cause of death was confirmed by Lee’s publicist on Monday, who wrote in a statement to TMZ: “Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed.”
Lee previously starred in the feature film Friday Night Lights and on the Disney Channel show The Famous Jett Jackson. Lee had been suffering from depression, E! News says.
In lieu of flowers, Lee’s family asks donations be made to the Young Storytellers Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving literacy among Los Angeles schoolchildren.
