Yesterday, we were quick to applaud Selena Gomez for putting her health first when we learned that she’d checked herself into a rehabilitation facility in early January. But it seems like the pop star wasn’t as serious about her recovery as it first appeared, as it’s being reported that Selena bailed just two weeks into her six week program — against the advice of the rehab staff.
While the 21-year-old’s team insists that she didn’t enter the facility for substance abuse, there have been a number of insiders claiming that Selena was dealing with alcohol, marijuana, and Ambien issues before being admitted to Dawn at the Meadows on January 5. Some are also saying that the former Disney star’s unhealthy relationship with ex Justin Bieber contributed to her need for treatment.
Whatever the reason for Selena’s rehab stay, just 14 days into the program, she chose to leave and head to the Sundance Film Festival to promote her upcoming film. Though her people weren’t happy about it, she promised them she would return to The Meadows after the event — though she never did.
The medical team at the treatment center is not pleased that Selena ditched out early on her program, TMZ reports. Apparently, the program is meant to be 45 days long, and they feel it’s important to complete the therapy in order to fully recover. The first week is supposedly the toughest, nicknamed “Survivor’s week,” and the fact that Selena completed it is what she’s using to justify her early departure. So while she might think everything’s fine and fixed, others aren’t so sure.
Whether this turns out to be true or not, we hope that Selena is looking out for number one. Showbiz is a tough industry, and it’s important to be healthy and strong to take it on head first.
