Liam Payne Apologizes for One Direction’s “Joint” Footage (VIDEO)

Liam Payne says that the "one direction" that he and his bandmates went in last week's leaked video — showing them discussing marijuana and smoking what they call a joint — is sideways.

The 20-year-old singer addressed the footage while responding to a Daily Mail column by Jan Moir which disses the group for the behavior evidenced in part by this video: "Like so many before them, they take fame for granted, raking in the cash and feeling it will never end."

Liam first tweeted that Jan had gotten some of her claims wrong — saying that the boys do write some of their own songs and do play musical instruments.

"Thank you for your lovely words, [Ms.] Moir," Liam writes. "Sorry we let you down so fantastically. Maybe next time, a little research is in order."

Then he turns remorseful and reflective: "I love my boys, and maybe things have gone a little sideways — I apologise for that. We are only in our 20s. We all do stupid things at this age. We all have a lot of growing up to do … I'm not making [excuses], but it's fact. We are [gonna] fall short somewhere. "

And finally, he addresses his fans: "Hopefully we stand the test of time and get it right in the end. I don't take this for granted, and I'm extremely grateful to be here doing this. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through this. Just know that we love you guys for it and it means the world."
