‘Life of Kylie’ Premiered With Stellar Ratings But Terrible Reviews
According to E!, the premiere ranked as the highest-rated new docuseries launch of the year to date and averaged 1.6 million total viewers.
According to many of those viewers, however, the show needs work.
The most common criticism of the series so far seems to be that it doesn't reach any interesting level of authenticity.
It seems to think it's offering viewers a new, deeper glimpse into Kylie's life and struggles with fame after growing up in the spotlight on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
But, at least so far, the consensus seems to be that it ultimately, well, doesn't.
But some reviewers argued the show didn't offer anything beyond the star's already familiar glossy social media brand.
“By staying at a surface level, Life of Kylie doesn't do much more than rehash and expand on Kylie's social media presence, and that's not particularly compelling,"Cosmopolitan wrote.
“Life of Kylie doesn't have that extra layer of realism, and so more than anything, it feels like watching a 30-minute Snapchat, and that doesn't make for great television.
"This isn't a slight — Kylie is a true queen of social media. But if anything, Life of Kylie proves that Kylie's life belongs online, not on TV.”
“It does seem like there is something about Kylie that’s intrinsically different than Kendall, Bella, or Hailey, and there is a sense that her life is far from perfect, but neither the therapy session nor the show seems all that interested in digging deep into what that is," said Vanity Fair.
"One feels like shouting at the television, ‘Turn the camera off and let her have a real therapy session!!!!!’”
If the premiere's high ratings tell us anything, it's that people seem to be curious about Kylie.
Hopefully, as the series progresses, it'll dig a little bit deeper.
Otherwise, we'll have to check back in on those ratings later on in the season.
Life of Kylie airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on E!
