Lifetime Officially Cancels Drop Dead Diva After Upcoming Sixth Season
Sad news, Drop Dead Diva fans. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Lifetime has decided to pull the plug on the hour-long drama after its upcoming sixth season airs this spring. Season 6 is set to premiere on the cable network with a two-hour opener on March 23, and it boasts an impressive roster of guest stars including Rick Springfield, S. Epatha Merkerson, John Ratzenberger, Corbin Bleu, Colin Egglesfield, Virginia Williams, and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts.
Brooke Elliott stars in the show — playing an aspiring model killed in a car crash and brought to life as a lawyer. In a case of life imitating art, DDD was actually brought back to life after it was first canceled by Lifetime when the fourth season wrapped last year, but the network revived it and opted to air a fifth season after a “new, cost-effective financial model” was instituted. The upcoming sixth season will have 13 episodes.
Drop Dead Diva Season 5 averaged just under two million viewers each week, which was a about one million viewers less than what it was pulling in back when Season 1 premiered in 2009. During its run the series was a nominee — and a winner — of several GLAAD Awards.
