Lil’ Mo Addresses Catfish Episode Exposing ‘Estranged’ Stepson as Con Artist

The new season of R&B Divas LA hasn’t even aired yet (July 16) and star Lil’ Mo is already hopping on Instagram to address some TV drama. Turns out the latest season of MTV’s Catfish featured an episode with a guy by the name of Jerez Cole, aka Kid Cole, who was exposed as running an internet scam. Turns out, Kid Cole is the son of Lil’ Mo’s ex-hubby, Gus Stone, and the singer took to Instagram to show a little sympathy for her (former) stepson.

“Big shoutout to MY "estranged" SON!! @colepushaz! i cannot sit here and LOL and point fingers at a young man that has the SAME FATHER as my daughters heaven and Godiss love,” Lil’ Mo started in the caption of the photo of Jerez she posted.

So why was Kid Cole on Catfish? Well, it seems that Jerez was a part of a scam in which he claimed to be the youngest producer on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label and convinced several people to pay bills for lavish amenities by promising jobs in the music industry. While Mo did say that she was initially caught off-guard by the episode, she realized that Jerez’s actions were the result of a boy who had to fend for himself almost his entire life.

“I saw the MTV special Catfish and my heart was saddened. I laughed at first because I was like ‘heaven ya brother on TV’. BUT the fact is, I literally saw this YOUNG MAN raise HIMSELF! His grandmother helped. But he wasn't her responsibility. Numerous payments was [sic] sent to the child support account that I paid out of my pocket. He was raised without a ‘YOU know what’! In these streets, get it how you LIVE IT!”

The Baltimore-born singer added that Jerez is “NOT a bad guy. He needs guidance. I truly hope he makes his way in the music industry. Which is way more cruel than the real world. PS iLove you Jerez! Never give up ok! love always, MOm #sorryIhadtoBEhumanTHISonce.”

Though Mo admitted that she hasn’t been around or heard from Jerez in years, she spoke with The Jasmine Brand about her concerns.

“I was very surprised. I had heard he was producing and working with Jaden Smith. When I asked his father was it true, he replied that he was crazy. I said that he got it honest,” later adding, “He basically raised himself. He is a product of his environment. I want to see him make it. If I told you some stuff OFF the record what I know, you would be in tears. No lie. Just know that he is not an intentional BAD GUY. geesh … While he is still alive, God bless him and pray that the big break I know he deserves it be granted. Exceedingly and abundantly.”

Here’s to hoping that Jerez gets the help that he needs.
