First Listen: Glee’s “The Chipmunk Song” — With Rachel, Santana and Kurt!
You thought Glee doing “The Fox” (What Does the Fox Say?) was weird. Well, things are about to get weirder. During December 5’s GleeSeason 5, Episode 8: "Previously Unaired Christmas," the show will offer its rendition of “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late).” Yes, the one from Alvin and the Chipmunks.
NYC favorites Rachel (Lea Michele), Santana (Naya Rivera), and Kurt (Chris Colfer) get lead vocals on the song, and the result is actually pretty fantastic. Sure, it’s a bit upsetting that we don’t actually get to hear their natural voices. But c’mon. Rachel, Santana, and Kurt are chipmunks. It’s kind of the best.
Rachel takes on the role of Simon, the tallest chipmunk, who famously sports a blue sweater and glasses. Santana is Theodore, the littlest chipmunk. That means Kurt has landed the prime role as Alvin, the leader of the pack and the most mischievous.
Glee’s version captures all the high-pitched charm and adorability of the original. The song even ends with a flurry of chipmunk giggles... and then one of them says, “tickle me.”
We have no idea how this is all going to play out on screen. But we can’t wait to find out.
