The Little Couple’s Jen: Bill Is “Fun Dad” and “I Am the Mean Maintenance Mom”

The Little Couple’s Bill Klein and Dr. Jennifer Arnold recently adopted an adorable 3-year-old boy named Will from China. They are currently in the process of adopting a 19-month-old girl named Zoey from India.

The TLC stars talked to OK! Magazine about their parenting styles, and the difficulty of balancing work and kids.

"I knew Bill was going to be an awesome dad," Jen told OK!. "He's wanted to be a dad as long as I've known him and you know, he is just that… and to be honest, one of the best things I love to see is Bill having fun and just horsing around with Will. As you can imagine, Bill is a big kid himself — he's perfectly content to be the fun dad, and that's officially Bill's name — he is fun dad. ... In fact, when Will is angry and trying to throw a temper tantrum—and all 3-year-olds have their moments — Bill starts laughing at him and then all of a sudden Will can't decide if he wants to laugh or cry, trying to hold back from laughing while he's trying to throw a temper tantrum which i think is great! But anyway, Bill is definitely fun dad and I am the mean maintenance mom!"

No, no, no — Bill told OK! Jen’s plenty fun herself, plus she has to balance being a mom with her job as a neonatologist at Texas Children's Hospital. "Everybody that's watched the show knows that Jen's selfless," Bill says. "She's devoted to her family, she's devoted to her job — and you know, she's as cute as a button! But you know, what she's impressed me the most is with her ability to be.. what's the word… I mean, she's a patient and loving mom, and I really don't understand how she's able to do it the way she does!”

Aww! Jen said she’s still struggling with the home/work balance. "If I was independently wealthy would I work? Probably not, I'd stay home all the time being with Will, but we've found a wonderful nanny who is helping us out and you know, thankfully, I'm trying to do less 30-hour shifts as much as my work can allow it and it's just taking it day by day. You know, it could be three months from now I change everything and go part time, or maybe not, i think I'm just trying to play it by ear right now… there are no rule books, there are no guides, I wish someone could tell me the right thing to do because its definitely a challenge!”

Read a lot more of their interview here. Best of luck to them! Parenting isn’t easy for anyone, but they seem to be doing a great job so far.
