Dancing With the Stars 2013 Live Recap: Season 17, Week 1 — Bow Down to Amber Riley

The time has officially come to kick off another season of Dancing With the Stars, so get your dancing shoes ready, DWTS fans.

Tune in with us for our Dancing With the Stars Season 17 premiere live recap, starting at 8 p.m. ET sharp! Given this season's all-star lineup, it's sure to be yet another season packed with memorable moments.

Dancing With the Stars 2013 hopefuls include Glee starlet Amber Riley (partnered with pro Derek Hough), former Disney star Corbin Bleu (Karina Smirnoff), and Jersey Shore fist-pumper, Snooki (Sasha Farber). When it comes to sizing up the competition, many of Season 17's celebs have had some sort of dance training. However, Amber could prove to be a early frontrunner given her theatrical background on Glee and her enormous fan base.

But we can't count out Val Chmerkovskiy and his celeb partner, former Saved By the Bell star Elizabeth Berkley. We all know Jessie Spano could bust a move or two at Bayside High pep rallies. Plus, who could forget Elizabeth's starring role in Showgirls? Given her history and ballroom-ready physique Elizabeth is definitely going to be one to watch. Also on our radar? Heartthrob Brant Daugherty! Not only is his partnership with Peta perfect showmance material, but he actually might be this season's ringer. Sure, he might not have all the right moves, but if there's one thing DWTS fans love, it's the journey. There's no doubt Brant will shape up to be a serious contender in the next few weeks.

And then there's Valerie Harper, who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January. Now, not only is the former Broadway dancer competing with fan favorite pro Tristan MacManus in the ballrooom, but her brain scans are showing signs that her cancer is in remission. Valerie's miraculous recovery may score her some votes, but it's her humor and charm that may secure her the victory.

OK DWTS fans, now that you know what to expect, join in on the fun below as Wetpaint Entertainment gets ready to live recap. And since we know you have a lot of feelings (we do too!), tell us what you think of the episode in the comments!

We’ll try our best to answer all of  your questions, comments and concerns. Keep refreshing for more!

8:00 — Peta and Brant are already the hottest couple in this opening number.

8:01 — Carrie Ann, no. Just, no.

8:02 — it's never a good sign when the celebs can't even try to dance in the opening number...

8:02 — OK, Snooki might be the frontrunner. How cute is she?!

8:03 — "I heard that he's kind of hot. Maybe that's why I'm nervous." Peta and Brant are the obvious showmance this season.

8:04 — Please, Peta. Just get Brant shirtless.

8:05 — Noel Kahn from Pretty Little Liars is doing the Cha-Cha to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines."

8:06 — His footwork needs work, but his natural charisma and pretty face (and large PLL fan base) will carry him well into the finals.

8:08 — Len seems to think Brant will sail through the competition. Duh, Len. He's gorgeous.

8:09 — 7-8-7 for Brant and Peta!

8:10 — Let it be known the celeb aquarium is gone, and the producers have flipped the stage. Where is Brooke Burke?!

8:14 — Oh, never mind. We found her.

8:15 — We love how Snooki now wants to be called Nicole. But the new mommy looks fabulous!

8:16 — Poor Leah. We don't see this going well. Her kind of humor isn't for everyone — it's kind of grating, no?

8:18 — Is it just me or has the house band improved this season?

8:19 — Oh, hey, Jennifer Lopez!

8:19 — OK, that Foxtrot was slow, but at least she hit all of her steps.

8:20 — No, Bruno. No twerking!

8:20 — Carrie Ann says Leah is all sass and class. Len calls Leah and Tony's Foxtrot "clean and precise."

8:21 — Leah and Tony score 7-7-7. No bad, you two!

8:22 — So the celebriquarium is now the "warm up room." Boo.

8:26 — TRISTAN MACMANUS, YOU ARE SO HOT. And Valerie Harper is a total doll.

8:27 — Fun fact: Corbin Bleu was at one point my TV crush. Sorry 'bout it, Zac Efron.

8:28 — Corbin and Karina for all of the wins. What is this Contemporary routine?! Props aren't easy, people — and those lifts!

8:30 — Standing ovation in the ballroom. Corbin is the new Zendaya.

8:31 — Karina was definitely more nervous than Contemporary.

8:31 — Corbin has raised the bar for everyone. Let's see if he can keep that momentum. The judges loved it.

8:32 — 8-8-8 for Corbin and Karina! For Week 1, that's impressive.

8:36 — Cheryl looks AMAZING!

8:37 — Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne are in the audience!

8:37 — OK, Jack is adorable. It's great that he's bring awareness to MS.

8:38 — Did Cheryl just call him Jack-O? Love it.

8:39 — Gotta give credit to Cheryl for such great choreography. For Week 1, Jack's Foxtrot was great!

8:40 — "Jack, you can dance!" Looks like Len's a fan. Bruno calls is "joyful, playful, and uplifting."

8:41 — Bruno, what are you on tonight? We need to give some of that to Leah Remini. She's falling asleep!

8:42 — 8-8-7 for Cheryl and Jack!

8:49 — How fierce is Amber's rehearsals ensemble?

8:49 — "We can't be back-to-back because of my booty."

8:50Glee choreographer Zach Woodlee is so proud of you right now, Amber.

8:50 — Amber is so fierce. I can't even handle it.

8:51 — Spotted: The cast of Glee! Kevin McHale is literally jumping for joy.

8:52 — That Cha-Cha was incredible! Derek Hough has Season 17's ringer.

8:52 — 9-9-9 for Derek and Amber!

8:58 — Val learned English by watching Saved By the Bell.

8:59 — Elizabeth Berkley's arm extensions are great. The best of Season 17 so far.

9:00 — Yes, Val. Please get shirtless.

9:00 — "I think I stopped dancing right around the time Showgirls came out. That was a difficult time for me." No comment.

9:01 — How many Showgirls references are we going to make?

9:01 — 8-8-8 for Elizabeth and Val!

9:02 — "Val, first impressions are not your thing." Let it be known Val had a crush "on the other one" — aka Kelly Kapowski.

9:04 — Apparently, Bill Nye and new pro Tyne Stecklein want to be known as "Hot Knowledge." Oh no.

9:05 — This is going to ruin my childhood.

9:06 — Watch your hands, Bill!

9:06 — So this Cha-Cha has a Weird Science theme because of course it does.

9:07 — Is Bill Nye this season's Andy Dick? Most likely. But it looks like the audience really likes him!

9:08 — "You're willing, but unfortunately, you're not that able." Len is being kind of harsh.

9:08 — Carrie Ann calls Bill the "heart of the show."

9:09 — 5-4-5 for Bill and Thyne. That wasn't very nice, judges (but probably deserved).

9:13 — So Keyshawn thinks ballroom dancing is "feminine." Have you seen the show, Keyshawn? You can take a few notes from Jacoby Jones.

9:15 — As much as I love Sharna, I'm not feeling Keyshawn's attitude. A little less sass, a little more charm.

9:16 — "There's a charming level of annoyance you have with each other." Tom is very insightful this season.

9:17 — It wasn't a bad Cha-Cha, but nothing will ever compare to Amber's Cha-Cha.

9:18 — 6-5-6 for Keyshawn and Sharna!

9:18 — Shirtless Val, you can stay.

9:24 — Christina Millian is already having meltdowns. Mark doesn't put up with nonsense, girl!

9:25 — The fog can hide a lot of imperfections, but overall, it was a nice Contemporary number, even if Christina was super nervous.

9:26 — "Oh mama, so much drama!" How does Bruno come up with this so fast?

9:26 — 7-7-8 for Christina and Mark!

9:27 — Why are these hot girls so into Bill Nye?

9:32 — Bill Engvall and Emma Slater are kind of adorable.

9:33 — "I would love to be the Rednecks' dancing king." And Miley Cyrus can be your queen, Bill.

9:34 — Bill and Emma could be this season's underdogs!

9:35 — Does everyone usually get a standing ovation?

9:36 — Bill is going to fall in the middle of the pack.

9:37 — 6-6-6 for Bill and Emma! A little low, but it's better than Bill Nye, so that's a plus.

9:38 — Valerie and Tristan have my heart. "I want to do my best."

9:39 — Seriously, though. HOW CUTE ARE THEY?

9:40 — People are already standing, and they haven't even started dancing yet!

9:44 — Tom Bergeron is Valerie's No. 1 fan. So many happy feelings.

9:45 — Valerie is so flawless and classy and amazing. Her hold position is incredible for Week 1.

9:46 — "It's good to be alive — and it's even better to be dancing." That's it. I'm done. See you next week.

9:47 — Bruno says she needs to work on her frame, but the judges all agree, Valerie is unstoppable.

9:48 — 7-7-7- for Valerie and Tristan!

9:52 — Something tells me they saved the best for last. Bring it on, Snooki!

9:53 — So Snooki wants an image makeover?

9:53 — Snooki and Sasha are going to be the firecrackers this season.

9:54 — "But I still really think I'm a hot mess."

9:55 — Snooki is so cute. There's so much potential for her this season.

9:56 — "You're a little pocket rocket!" Poor Len. He walked right into that one.

9:57 — Loving the real music this season. It's much less distracting.

9:58 — "I felt awesome, and I loved every minute of it." Aw, Snooki is adorable. But where is Lorenzo?

9:58 — 8-8-7 for Snooki and Sasha!
