The win, albeit wonderful for the sweet country star, was no big surprise to fans, as she’d become the darling of DWTS since the very beginning. That’s not to say the competition wasn’t stiff. Kellie beat out Teen Disney Channel star Zendaya despite the fact that Zendaya got the highest amount of points from the judges. She also beat out Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy.
The 26-year-old star became known for her seemingly professional moves on the dance floor, while her time on Idol focused more on the ditzy parts of her persona. You might recall the time Simon Cowell told her that one of her performances was “ballsy,” and she said, “What’s a ‘ballsy’?” She was called the Jessica Simpson of American Idol, and even went on to a somewhat cringe-worthy appearance on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Hint: She wasn’t.
The gorgeous star, who recently and admirably shaved her head in support of a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer, seems to have really grown up since her run on Idol. Of her time and win on DWTS, she told Us Magazine, "We've made so many memories out here on this dance floor and in the studio. We've all worked so hard to be here, and it's just overwhelming. But in a great way."
If you thought she was the most emotional person out there last night, you’d be mistaken, however. It was her husband, Kyle Jacobs, who shed a few tears.
"I was like, 'Baby, were you crying?' And he was like, 'Oh, I had something in my eye. I got some confetti in my eye... ' He was so proud," she told Us Mag. "The first thing he said tonight was, 'Baby, I love you and I'm so proud of you. You did it.'"
Her dancing is now a part of her life, and won’t end now that the show is over. In fact, she’s convinced Kyle to take lessons with her.
"I told him that if he didn't take dance classes with me, I'd have to find a rent-a-husband!" she joked to the mag.
She has certainly mature in the seven years since American Idol. It would be interesting to see how she might have fared this past season. Either way, there’s no denying this girl is downright “adorbs.”
