Many reality celebs use their shows as a platform of some kind; it’s either to showcase their music or build their brand. In the case of Love & Hip Hop’s Peter Gunz, however, it’s solely for a paycheck.

In a recent interview with MTV’s Sway Calloway, the “Déjà Vu (Uptown Baby)” rapper revealed that he joined the cast of the dramatic show because “s—t was gonna blow up anyway. I was going to get busted. Why not get paid to get busted.”

In case you didn’t know, Peter’s referring to the realization during the LHH Season 4 premiere in which fans learn of his double life with his live-in girlfriend (and baby mama) of 13 years, Tara Wallace, and his new wife, Amina Buddafly. Peter, who is currently Amina’s manager, also confessed that he was “broke” when he was approached by the show and really needed the money.

“I’m f—cked up out here,” he tells Sway. “Last time I went to the ATM, the s—t told me to get the f—k outta here. I had one hit…” he confessed to Sway, adding “when they called me about the show, I was three months behind the rent…”

Though adding quite possibly the biggest scandal to the show may be putting money in Peter’s pockets, it not necessarily bettering his relationships. The rapper-turned-manager called his life “extreme” and apologized to Tara.

“I need to get my s—t together… Tara deserves better,” he admits. Let’s hope that by the time this season of Love & Hip Hop comes to a close, Peter’s done just that.

A new episode of Love & Hip Hop airs Monday, November 4, at 8 p.m. on VH1.
