Great news, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta fans! Stevie J. has been released from jail on a $25,000 bond, following his arrest on Monday, June 9. The reality star was sent home on Wednesday from the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta.
Stevie was arrested on charges stemming from allegedly owing over $1.2 million in unpaid child support over the course of 14 years for his two children with ex-girlfriend Carol Bennett. Stevie has been ordered twice to appear in a New York family court regarding the child support cases, but failed to make either appearance, prompting an arrest. Since being released, Stevie has been ordered once again to appear in court in New York.
Federal prosecutors demand that Stevie cough up the cash, considering that former Bad Boy producer is making “substantial income from his participation in a reality television.” As a matter of fact, prosecutors say Stevie made $193,000 from Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and another $100,000 in music royalties in the first 8 months of 2013 alone! But while prosecutors allege that Stevie’s been hoarding his major cash, his attorney, Daniel Meachum, claims that his client has been a great dad both emotionally and financially.
“We plan on proving that if there is an amount owed, it is definitely not a million dollars, nor anything close to that amount," Daniel said.
We can only hope that Stevie can clear away this child support case… after all, he does have Joseline’s budding musical career to work on and she’s made it clear she doesn’t have time for his “shenanigans.”
