Update (July 23, 2014):

New information from the Beverly Hills PD says Ray J allegedly grabbed a woman’s breast in the incident at a Beverly Hills bar in May and that’s what has the cops saying prosecution for sexual battery is appropriate. Ray J’s arraignment is set for Friday, July 25; he’s not required to be there.

Original story (July 21, 2014):

This is unexpected, to say the least. Ray J has been charged in connection to an incident this past May where he was asked to leave a bar and allegedly kicked out the window of a police car and spat on an officer. But what’s this about a sexual battery charge in the mix?

According to TMZ, the L.A. County D.A.’s Office is indicting the “I Hit It First” rapper — aka Kim Kardashian’s sex tape co-star, for those of you with short memories — with a total of 10 charges. Those include four counts of resisting arrest, three counts of assault and battery, and two counts of vandalism, all misdemeanors.

Those other charges aren’t exactly surprising, but Ray J’s also been slapped with a misdemeanor sexual battery charge for allegedly brushing up against a bar patron’s butt, the very incident that led to him being asked to leave the bar. For those who aren’t intimately familiar with the California Penal code’s classifications for sexual assault, a misdemeanor sexual battery charge typically refers to intentional, non-consensual contact with an alleged victim’s “intimate parts.”

Police told TMZ back in May that they felt Ray J’s inappropriate contact with the woman in question was  “incidental” rather than “intentional” and therefore shouldn’t result in a sexual battery charge. Obviously, the D.A. found otherwise.

Whatever happened that night, we’re sure Ray J’s going to want to be on his best behavior from now on.
