The girls are back in town! That’s right, the Real Housewives of New York are back and better than ever after a year-plus hiatus, and we couldn’t be happier. Season 5 newbies Heather Thomson, Carole Radziwill, and Aviva Drescher really “came to the plate” this go-round, and their dynamic with OGs like Ramona Singer and LuAnn de Lesseps makes for some good TV.
But what of our lovely Countess? We knew that Upper East Side grande dame was taking a more supporting role this season, but she’s still part of drama — and we’d expect nothing less. Wetpaint Entertainment was able to chat exclusively with LuAnn at the Season 6 premiere party at Tokya Sushi Lounge and Nightclub in NYC on March 12.
While there, she filled us in on her breakup from longtime boyfriend Jacques, braving the NYC dating scene (with wingwoman Sonja Morgan!), and her newest venture — a clothing line!
Wetpaint Entertainment: You were very upfront about the fact that you took a step back from the show in Season 6. How will that translate to what we see on-screen?
LuAnn de Lesseps: You’ll see me arrive late into the season. I come in in the fourth episode, but I come in with a bang! This season has been a lot of fun. There’s always drama, but this year is funny. There’s a lot of giggling going on. I find that the women this season really came to the plate, whereas the season before I felt like we didn’t know them. They found their way, and it makes it a good dynamic — good and bad.
You were also pretty open about the fact that you broke up with your boyfriend Jacques this year. Are you ready to get back out there?
Yeah, I’m ready! I’ve been ready since August, so its been like, eight months. It’s just hard to find quality guys out there. I feel like I need my own dating show, called Finding Mr. Right. Who can charm the socks off The Countess? That’s what I need. It’s hard to find charming guys.
Sonja told us a little while ago that you’re her favorite wingwoman.
Oh yeah, Sonja and I are good together. She’s so fun!
What else will we see happen with you on this season?
You won’t see it on the show because it came afterwards, but I’m working on an apparel line that’s coming out May 17 for ShopNBC. During the season, it’s really about the traveling, it’s about what happened with Jacques and I, a little bit — bit of a spoiler there!
Real Housewives of New York airs on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
