From Pretty Little Liars to pretty little singer, 2014 is going to be a big year for Lucy Hale. With the release of her debut single, “You Sound Good to Me,” just hours away, Lucy was recently named an “On the Verge” artist by USA Today.
In the super cute video interview, Lucy talks about her musical tastes — “I listened to country music and Disney princess songs. Those are the two main kinds of music that I listened to.” — and her inspirations.
Lucy reveals what, or rather who, inspired her to start singing. “I remember growing up I wasn’t allowed to watch MTV, but I would sneak downstairs and I remember watching Britney Spears’ first music video for “...Baby One More Time” and I just found it really inspiring. I think it was that moment when I saw her video, a lightbulb went off and I thought, ‘Oh, I could do this.’”
While we doubt Lucy will be donning pigtail braids and a tartan skirt anytime soon, she is ready to introduce her PLL fans to who she really is when her debut album drops this year. “I discovered a lot of things about myself,” she told USA Today. “ I think the album introduces who Lucy is.”
We can only imagine how nervous Lucy is for her debut single, “You Sound Good to Me,” to hit iTunes on January 7, 2014, but having watched her show-stopping performance at the 2013 CMA Country Christmas, we think our girl is going to be just fine. She’s already got the pipes of a country superstar!
Of course, we don’t want Lucy to forget about Rosewood anytime soon, especially now that Ezra is “A” suspect numero uno. It’s going to be a tough season for Aria, so here’s hoping she turns to country music to help her cope with all of her feelings. (According to Lucy, the PLL writers would probably be open to the idea! "They're so supportive.") There has to be a song about a lying, psycho ex-lover somewhere on the album, right Lucy?
