Could Elisabeth Moss be gearing up to take down a murderer on Season 2 of True Detective?

The Wrap is reporting that HBO has its eye on a few big movie stars to take over for Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, including Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn. The main female lead was reportedly offered to Jessica Chastain, who turned it down. Now it looks like Elisabeth Moss might be stepping into that role!

The second season of the hit HBO show will be set in a new city in California where the corrupt city manager was found brutally murdered. To find out who did it, three officers come on board to solve the mystery.

Elisabeth would be playing a Monterey sheriff named Ani Bezzerides, who is described as being a tough, no-nonsense type with a gambling and alcohol problem.

Also being considered for the female role is The Killing's Michelle Forbes — who would be equally as amazing, we're sure.

And, considering the top talent reportedly circling roles and the fact that the first season was such a hit, we can't wait to see what this next season brings!
