Madeleine McCann Case: Sketch of New Person of Interest Released to the Public

We had already gotten wind that there were “substantive new leads” in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, and now, British police have released two computer-generated pictures of a man who is sought for questioning in the case.

The little girl’s disappearance from her family's hotel room in the Portuguese town of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007 continues to capture nationwide attention. Now, six years since her disappearance, fresh leads have been uncovered in a new investigation launched by Scotland Yard.

According to People, the man in the photographs has been described by Metropolitan Police as a white male in between the ages of 20 and 40, with short brown hair, a medium build, and medium height. He is clean shaven. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said of this man, "We have witnesses placing him in the resort area around the time of Madeleine's disappearance."

Redwood released a statement this morning that said, “Today I am asking the public for their help. Whilst this man may or may not be the key to unlocking this investigation, tracing and speaking to him is of vital importance to us.”

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, went on the program Crimewatch to make more pleas to be public as well. As Kate said, “We're not the ones that have done something wrong here. It's the person who's gone into that apartment and taken a little girl away from her family."

Investigators plan to appear on tonight’s episode of Crimewatch on the BBC. The show, which will air in the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany, will feature these investigators appealing to the public for help with their leads.

Former reports have noted that the newly launched investigation has created hundreds of new leads and 41 new people of interest. As Redwood said, "This is far from our only line of inquiry and there will be e-fits released of other sightings as well, who we are equally keen to trace."

What’s also interesting to note is that this new investigation has reportedly “significantly changed the timeline” of what happened on that horrific night, although the details on how this is so were not yet released.
