Our own beloved Maksim Chmerkovskiy is enlisting for dance duty! The former Dancing With the Stars pro has joined the USO (United Service Organizations) as a national spokesperson to help launch Dance for the Troops, a grassroots campaign to encourage communities across the country to support the troops through dance fundraisers.

Maks tweeted a link to details late Thursday night, writing, "Teaming up with @the_USO for a project that couldn't be more relevant right now!"

Volunteers who want to host a Dance for the Troops event can create a fundraising page at USODance.org, where there are also hosting toolkits and guidelines. You can also head there to donate to an event, once it’s been launched. Dance for the Troops will run until the end of the year on New Year’s Eve 2013.

“In my work I find so many organizations that are looking for ways to support the troops and when I learned that the USO wanted to use dance as a fundraising vehicle for making an impact, I immediately wanted to join the effort in getting the word out,” Maks said in a press release. “Dance is an inspiring way to get communities together to make a true difference in the lives of those who sacrifice so much.”

USO SVP and Chief Development Officer Kelli Seely added, "For years, schools, community organizations and clubs have held dances to celebrate events and occasions. Dance for the Troops allows Americans to turn their preplanned event into one that will help make a difference. Whether you’re hosting a dance, attending one or even inviting friends to a watch party for one of your favorite dance shows, the money you raise will help create some life changing moments for so many troops and military families.”

This organization’s programs aim to lift the spirits of U.S. troops and their families around the world. They also provide support to forward-deployed troops, military families, wounded warriors, and families of the fallen. Head to TeamUSO.org for details.

Keep the good work, Maks! Especially if the good work involves Maks dancing in a military uniform. Any way we can make that happen?
