‘American Crime Story’: Did Marcia Clark & Christopher Darden Have a Relationship?
Sparks are flying between Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden on American Crime Story — but did anything happen IRL?
The chemistry is totally evident on the FX drama between portrayers Sarah Paulson and Sterling K. Brown, but details on if there was an actual romance or if it was just a good working relationship aren’t as clear.
Tonight’s all-new episode, titled “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia,” dives into the personal life of the lead prosecutor and her dynamic with Christopher.
While Marcia — who was going through a divorce and custody battle during the O.J. Simpson trial — maintains nothing happened between her and her colleague at the time, even calling the rumors “ridiculous,” his story is quite the contrary.
Christopher wrote in his book In Contempt they were "two passionate people thrown together in a trial that left us exhausted and lonely."
"We sat up listening to hip-hop and R&B,” he continued. “We danced a few times and drank a few bottles of wine. In my mind, that is a relationship."
There are many sources from the time that allege a romantic connection was made between them and there were even plans for a wedding, but that all seems to have been concocted for the benefit of tabloids.
While Marcia never remarried for a third time, Christopher did marry someone shortly after the trial ended and, believe it or not, her name is Marcia Carter. They are still together today.
As for the pair’s status in 2016, a very extensive profile on Marcia in New York Magazine claims the two “have not seen each other in ages.”
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
