‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Still Dealing With Daughter Mariah Coming Out (VIDEO)
Mariah Brown’s family has mixed emotions after her big announcement on last week’s episode of Sister Wives left everyone nearly speechless.
The TLC star revealed she’s gay to parents Kody and Meri Brown, as well as sister wives Robyn, Janelle, and Christine, and they each process the news differently on Sunday’s episode.
"She just drops it like a bomb, and we're like, 'Oh,'" says her father. "Janelle and Robyn are already there going, 'I'm so glad you found yourself.' They're celebratory. I'm still in a state of processing this."
While Mariah’s father is shocked but supportive, it’s her mother Meri who takes the news the hardest.
"This is a little unexpected. I did not see this coming ... Kind of surprises me that she's known for so long and hasn't said anything to us,” says the 45-year-old.
“I just don't want to say the wrong thing and be offensive, but at the same time I want to be able to say what I feel.”
Their 21-year-old daughter also opens up about her sexual orientation and why she pushed it away for so many years.
"It's always been there — it's always been something I pushed away because I was scared. I think my biggest fear has always been to be gay,” she reveals.
“So I didn't let myself accept it because it was wrong — I was told [by members of the church] that it was wrong and that I would be a bad person."
Since the shocking announcement, which happened over Thanksgiving weekend, Kody has come to terms with his daughter’s sexuality.
“I thought about this years ago, and I made a decision,” he told People recently. “My job as a dad is to love and respect and not to judge.”
We’re happy to see her parents are so supportive, even if the news was hard to swallow at first.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on TLC.
